Setting the display quality

To set the display quality of the Drawing Window, use the Image Quality popup menu.

As you move down the menu, the display quality increases - but this is more work for the computer, and so it takes longer to update the Drawing Window:

If you choose No Filters, Director ignores all filters. This is useful for rapid checking of the scene's layout.

If you choose Fast Preview or Preview, Director makes some minor compromises in image quality when rendering to the Drawing Window, to minimize memory demand and to give high rendering speeds.

If you choose Final 8 or Final 16, Director renders all images to the Drawing Window in exactly the same way as it renders drawings for final output (with 8 or 16 bits per color component). This gives the highest possible rendering quality, but at the expense of greater memory demands and slower rendering.

In our experience, most users find the Preview qualities of rendering quite sufficient for their needs, and value the improved performance they get using it. However, if image quality is critical to you whilst you work on a production, you might like to try using one of the Final qualities.

The display quality also depends on the size of the window; a larger window means that the output will be shown to a higher resolution. Of course, a larger Drawing Window takes longer to update.

Remember, this menu does not alter the quality of your final output.
